Introduction Math
Children need opportunities to do math. Each student is unique in how they learn and each learner has varying knowledge, life experiences and backgrounds. As a result, they need opportunities to explore problem solving situations and develop mathematical strategies to become proficient in math.
According to the Ontario Ministry of Education understanding math in our everyday lives enables us to:
-Manage time and money, and handle everyday situations that involve numbers
-Understand patterns around us and make predictions based on patterns
-Solve problems and make sound decisions
-Explain how we solved a problem and why we made a particular decision
-Use technology (for example, calculators and computers) to help solve problems
